Week 14

(February 26th- March 5th, 1999)

Life:

Well, last weekend I got Harmony's 3 month photos done and they look really nice! I also got a disk with the seven poses they took so those pictures are now in the little picture gallery. She was really good, and only started to get fussy towards the end. I can't wait to get them back so I can give the pictures out to family and friends.

Things are still really busy -I say that like it will eventually end, even though I realize it never will... so I'm trying my very best to slow down and enjoy life, enjoy every little smile and laugh. Harmony is really fun at this age, I wish I had someone to always do my dishes and other chores so I could just enjoy being with my daughter, but unfortunately, stuff has to be done! The worker from "Healthy Babies, Healthy Children" is now coming for an hour and a half every week. Her name is Line and she keeps an eye on Harmony and plays with her while I speed through as many chores as I can. Last Monday I managed to do the laundry, vaccum my room, Harmony's room, and the hall, clean my bathroom counter, empty the dishwasher, put the dirty dishes in, wash some pots, and start clearing away some of the clutter in the family room, as well as some other stuff. Not bad for an hour and a half! Unfortunately, that's been one of my only two breaks from her! I think I really need to find more people to keep an eye on her while I have some "me" time, or I'm going to throw her out a window... of course I'm kidding, I'd never do that, but I do feel as though I need more of a break. That's one of the big differences I notice between me and all the other mothers I know- everyone gets to have a break. Krissie drops Lauren off with her ex-husband for one evening a week, and for half the weekend. Sarah can usually get her mother, her ex's mother, or her friend Cindy to look after Arianna or Bailey, or both, but I don't really have anyone. It will be so nice when my dad comes home!

Last night was a real highlight of the week. I got picked up by my friend Cynthia and her boyfriend (he drives), and we went over to her place with a bunch of other friends to watch a movie, play board games, and just hang out. Her mother ended up taking Harmony for most of the evening, and put her off to sleep, so I got a nice 2 hour break. Then when we got home, I thought Harmony would wake up and want to eat, but she stayed sleeping until 4:45 am! It was so awesome! :) I'll have to ask Cynthia's mom what she did to put her to sleep cause wow, did it ever work well!

I babysat for my cousins on Friday (once again, I'm writing this on Sat, a day late...)- they're cuties but I'm so glad I only have one! Harmony had her fingers in her mouth and 3 year old Andrew piped up "Krissie?" "What Andrew?" "The baby's picking his nose..." Kids really do say the cutest things sometimes... :) Anyways, I got to bring back the video camera with me so I'm now taking a whole bunch of videos of Harmony! Krissie was over tonight so she played cameraman so I could be in the video too. It's going to be so weird looking at those down the road! Just thinking about that freaks me out- what will Harmony look like when she's 6? Will she run home excitedly to show me her latest artwork? I'm glad she's 3 months old right now, but it's kinda exciting thinking about the little girl who'll always be growing and changing!

Harmony's Growth:

A few new milestones! Harmony now finds "peekaboo" funny, much to both of our delight! She'll look around while I have my hands over my face (she can't tell that I'm peeking at her) and then will break into a huge grin when I uncover my face and say "peekaboo!". She's also now ticklish, which has just been so much fun! Her little chuckles when I tickle her under the chin makes me instantly forget about how much of a pain she is at night. She also seems to be starting to grasp the concept of anticipation. When I dance my hands up her tummy saying "I'm gonna tickle you!" she starts laughing, and she finds it really hysterical when I lean towards her, getting closer and closer, making kissing noises before giving her kisses all over her face.

Physically, she weighed in at 13 lbs 10 oz on Tuesday, which is a 6 oz gain in one week's time- an ideal gain for her age! Only one more pound until she's doubled her birth weight. She still has the blisters on her gums, but they haven't gotten any worse, and still don't seem to be bothering her. She still has mild exema, but the cream I've been putting on seems to be helping. Dr. Moss prescribed the same cream I'd been using for her cradle cap, which is still lingering a little tiny bit, although not in really noticeable spots. Harmony's still shedding her hair, so the hair that's growing in might end up to be a different color. I was born with black hair, and then when my newborn hair fell out, my real hair started growing in red. I wonder if her hair will get more red or more blond? I hope it has a little red in it. I'm sure it will- she's such a Mommy's girl and everyone always comments on how much she looks like me. It's so neat to look down and see this little piece of yourself reflected in another person. :)
