Week 22

(April 23rd, 1999 - April 30th, 1999)

Life:

This week Harmony got to spend a lot of time with her Dad. He was in town most of the week and he babysat for me for a few nights and half of Saturday while I was at a music workshop! One of the songs I wrote during the workshop is for Harmony. I'll be performing it at the NAC tommorow (Sunday) as well as a few other pieces. I also got to play the bass guitar, which I've never done before. I was able to do pretty well, since I've played guitar a little bit in the past. Harmony did really well with Chris, and fortunately him having her hasn't interfered very much with our breastfeeding schedule; she only had one bottle each night and since she usually has one anyways, there wont be much to catch up on next week.

On Friday, we had the paternity test done. The results will be back in four weeks, but I already know the answer. However, Chris parent's might be more supportive once the results come back and show he is for sure the father. I was so surprised at Harmony's reaction to having blood taken! When she got her first immunization done at 2 months old, she just howled, but when they inserted the needle to take blood, she cried for 30 seconds, and then after she was given her soother, just fussed a little bit, on the verge of tears, but not actually crying! She sat pretty patiently while they finished taking blood- a suprising ammount for such a small baby, my poor little girl! :( It was not a very plesant experience and I'd rather not have had to subject either Harmony or I to it, but at least now it's done. I still feel a little sting at being accused of lying, etc. and unfortunately it probably wont be pleasant for Harmony to hear about her grandparents' disbelief that she was their grandchild, but perhaps now things will improve on their side and there wont be any *additional* bad memories.

This week was also the first week of the intensive program at Bethany. Harmony did excellently in daycare, and according to Dixie she fit right in with the schedule, including nap times! I enjoyed most of the programs I started, although I'm still waiting for the books to arrive for the correspondance course. It's an eight week program, and I think it'll go well. At least Harmony will have a fairly consistant routine!

Harmony's Growth:

Harmony now weighs 16 lbs 6 oz, so a bit of a slow down in weigh gain, but that's very normal for 5 months. She's still working on her sitting skills, getting more and more sturdy, and also working a little on her rolling skills. Her verbal skills are coming back a bit more now that sitting is less of an all-effort-consuming ordeal.

Harmony started carrots, exactly a week after she first tried sweet potatoes, and she definetely likes them just as much. It makes for really smelly and odd looking (as in, orange looking!) dirty diapers, but at least she hasn't had any alergic reaction thus far. I'll wait another week and then maybe try another veggie...hmm...maybe peas? We'll see... :)

Continue to the next week...
