Week 24

(May 6th, 1999- May 14th, 1999)

Life:

Even though it was a week ago, it just missed last week's entry, so I'll have to write a little bit about my very first mother's day! Harmony didn't seem to care, but I got a card and gift on her behalf from my grandma Dee-Dee, and a big bouquet of flowers arrived Sunday morning from Harmony's Dad. I had a nice dinner with my grandmother, and of course spent a lot of time with Harmony, as usual. :) All in all, a nice day, well except for the walk home -the bus connections went badly and I ended up having to walk home from the mall, which normally isn't that bad, but the mall wass closed and I couldn't cut through, which added to the walk (and it was chilly out!) :(

In other news, things in the sleep department are going well. Harmony settled off around 9:30 or earlier every night this week except one. It's been so great because even though she's going to bed a little earlier, her waking up time has stayed constant! So now she'll settle off for bed at 9:30, and still not wake up until 5 am to nurse! Day time naptime schedules though, have unfortunately gotten a little mixed up. She still often naps at her usual 11 am time slot, but now no longer seems to be interested in napping in the early afternoon. Instead, she fights sleep all afternoon (which means she can't stay in daycare!) and then she'll nap on the way home from school on the bus (at 4 or 5 pm). But I guess we'll just deal with getting the bedtime routine settled first, and then deal with getting nap times back on track.

Last week was kind of crappy. I was sick for a lot of the week, but I still managed to get to most of my activities. I received my corresponce books, and started the first unit. It'll be tough to finish because I figure out that I'd have to do a unit every two weeks, but hopefully I'll manage.

This weekend was awesome! I'm actually writing this on Sunday because I just haven't had the time to write it before. Last night a couple of my friends came over to watch Harmony for the night so I could go out and celebrate my 19th birthday. It was really great and Harmony was well behaved, I'm told. I settled Harmony off to sleep around 9 o'clock, so when the babysitters arrived, they didn't have to do anything except be there until Harmony woke up. She ended up sleeping until 5, and then had a bottle and went back to sleep until 9 am! Lucky Dawn and Nina, that's later than she sleeps for me! :) She had a bit of cereal then, and only an ounce of her bottle (they said she didn't really seem interested), and at about 10:30 I got home to nurse her, so my milk supply is really only behind by one feeding and that will be easy to catch up.

Another happy surprise is that Harmony's dad will probably be coming home next weekend because it's a long weekend (Victoria Day weekend). It'll be so nice to see him again! We're going to go and get Harmony's 6 month pictures done, and I was thinking we could also take Harmony for her first swim! I can't wait, that'll be so cute!

Harmony's Growth:

I unfortunately didn't get a chance to have Harmony weighed last week, but she's certainly thriving! :) No new foods this week, it was just kind of rough to deal with being sick and looking after her as it was so I didn't want to add any complications. But I think next week I'll introduce some fruit.

Harmony's sitting skills are improving quickly. I can now put her down without worrying about her falling over. She has a few times, but now she does this hysterical thing where she'll sense she's going to fall and she'll tighten her abdominal muscles as she falls so that she kind of lowers herself close to the floor before she lets go and falls. And when she does that, she doesn't even hit her head or cry or anything. She has taken a tumble where she lost her balance suddenly and went over, but that was the exception, not the rule, and it was because she was reaching for a toy far in front of her and fell foward. Now that she's sitting, she's also started this adorable "arm flapping" thing. She'll be sitting in her high chair and she'll start banging her hands down on the tray. It's the cutest thing! She usually does it when she's happy, and she did it during her bath on Saturday- what a look that got when all the water came splashing back at her! She also flapped her arms when she first saw me when I came home this morning, I think she was happy to see me (as I was to see her!!!) :)

Continue to the next week...
