Week 35

(July 23rd, 1999- July 30th, 1999)

Life:

It's been a really great week, for both Harmony and I. Her ear infection is all better and she seems much happier. She has a lot of fun at daycare and I'm really glad she's there because it provides even more stimulation than I can provide at home. They go on a daily walk, have a wide assortment of toys, and most importantly (since I go on walks with her and have toys for her too), there are other babies to play with! One cute story they told me this week was that Harmony had a morning nap, but refused to go for an afternoon nap at her usual time. So she stayed up, and then when snack time came around (3:30 or so), she fell asleep, curled up around her little cookie! I wish I could've been there to see that! She stayed even stayed asleep while they cleaned her off and carried her up to the sleep room. :)

I've had an awesome week too and have acheived a lot. I'm finally getting the chance to put my house (and my life!) in order. I've worked out four times this week at the gym, been shopping for a lot of things I need to organize the house (like new laundry baskets) and have been cleaning and cleaning like crazy. I know that Harmony will probably be crawling soon so the pressure is on to get everything done! A couple days ago she got into the bottom shelf of a little bookcase that was in the hall and in the time it took me to brush my teeth, she'd pulled everything off and was getting into the stuff! I suspected she was getting into something cause all of a sudden she was quiet. That's the thing with kids- when they're banging with their toys, talking, etc, you know everything's fine. But when their quiet, you know either something's wrong or they're getting into something new they don't want you to find out about. :P

I find that now that the quantity of time I have with Harmony has decreased, the quality has increased. When I go to pick her up at 4, I am so happy to see her. She's still kinda frustrating on the bus ride home, but I don't blame her cause it's hot, boring, crowded and loooong. When we get home, I really enjoy playing with her and making her laugh. We "chat" while we make and have supper, and I enjoying sitting next to the tub watching her play in her bath. I find cuddling before bed more enjoying and I really love having my little baby cuddled in my arms with her bottle. She's at this really nice age where play time is just so much fun. The thing that makes her laugh the hardest is when I let her sit on my bed and play, and I stand at the end and say "Ready? JUMP!" and I jump down next to her so she can bounce a little before trying to pull my hair and yank off my nose. She also really loves it when she holds something out to me and I grab it with my mouth. I guess it's so funny to her cause it's what she does with her toys. The thing that makes ME laugh the hardest is when she's sitting up, and I lie down in front of her and she explores my face (and sometimes faceplants her mouth right on my nose or forehead and I end up with a bunch of drool on me...ew!) I know, it sounds gross, but it's too funny. So I'm really glad she's in daycare. I miss her a lot, and sometimes I feel guilty, but it's improving my patience, and I'll need to store up quite a bit for fall!

This week, Harmony has decided she wants to WALK everywhere! We've spent half our playtime this weekend (it seems!) just walking around the apartment and my back is so sore bending over to hold her little hands (it's either that or get really bad carpet burn on my knees from holding on to her and moving forward on my knees- I don't know how crawling babies survive!). Often, I'll put her down to sit and play as usual and she'll just stiffen and cry. Even being on her back is no fun. As soon as she stands up, she immediately stops whatever fussing and whining she was doing and starts making her "happy-sniffy" face (wrinkled nose with a big smile). It's too cute! She's getting better too, I imagine she'll be cruising the furniture in a month or two.

Harmony's Growth:

Wow! Harmony weighs 19 lbs 10 oz!!! I can't beleive she's gained that fast, but I'm happy cause it means as soon as I get my car I can move her right to a forward-facing carseat, which I think she will like much better since she will get to see out the windows. :)

Developmentally, she's still slowly working on her skills in a sort of "plateau", nothing really new going ok. She's getting more mobile with her backwards crawling, but still no forward crawling yet. And no top front teeth yet, but she's been drooling a little more lately, and chewing on things a bit more, so they may be on their way, who knows?
