Week 34

(October 28th- November 4th)

Emotional:

Everyone has been telling me throuhgout this pregnancy that the last trimester just seems to drag on and on and I'm finding that the exact opposite is true! I felt the middle months seemed long while I was waiting for things to happen- waiting for the baby to start kicking, waiting for my tummy to actually show. These past weeks are just flying by at lightning speed!!!

I was supposed to have my labour bag packed at 34 weeks, and I'm 35 weeks now and it's still not packed. Oops, I might want to get going on that, since this little baby could be here in a couple weeks. I met Nadine (the birth companion/doula) on Thursday night and I'm really glad to have her with me. I feel more secure now about how my labour will go. It isn't likely that Chris will be there, and I need someone I can count and depend on. Nadine will be helping me try to avoid pain medication- I want Harmony to enter the world as alert as possible, although if the labour is too long and/or painful, I am planning an epidural as plan B. I still have to hand in my birth plan at the hospital, but it's mostly complete.

On Sunday, I went to the Welcome Wagon baby shower. I think I was literally the youngest person there, so that was a little weird. But at least I had Rhonda Lee with me and wasn't alone. I didn't win any of the extra door prizes, but we did get some information, and a really nice picture frame.

Monday was Chris' 20th birthday. I'd sent his gift a week before and he finally received it today. I got him a book he'd said he wanted when he was here at Thanksgiving, and gift certificates for another book of his choice.

Physical:

Tiredness, backaches, swollen ankles... all these things continue, but I'm feeling ok. I'm still getting around by bus, and walking and it's not going too badly. Sleeping is getting more and more uncomfortable though! I spend more and more time in bed, but less and less time actually sleeping! My bed time now consists of a lot of tossing an turning. At least Harmony behaves pretty well while I'm sleeping. Her movements are quiet enough at night to allow for me to sleep. She's usually very very active right before and after I sleep, so maybe that's her way of compensating. It's pretty cute that she's a considerate baby already- I hope this pattern of letting me sleep continues when she's a newborn!!! :)
